Pascal Rogé Plays Debussy

About the Performance

Following his sold-out Debussy recital in 2024, French piano virtuoso Pascal Rogé returns to acclaim. This 75-year-old leading figure of the French piano school will once again pay homage to his lifelong artistic devotion at the Mountain View Theater.

During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire in the 1960s, Debussy's works formed the core of Rogé's specialised training. As a direct disciple of Marguerite Long—the interpreter most esteemed by Debussy himself—Rogé possesses the purest, first-hand interpretation of this school.

This concert will feature a selection of Debussy's piano works. For Rogé, the score can never fully capture the ‘original painting’ of Debussy's music. He once remarked that notation pales before the genius of imagination, and that the performer's mission is to ‘translate’ simple dynamics into the light and shadow, the breeze and moonlight that cannot be written on the page. This is not merely a piano recital, but a journey of colour that recreates the French soul.
