As the grand finale of Mountain View Theater Classical Music Season 2026, the highly anticipated ‘golden duo’ – violinist HUANG Bin and pianist SHENG Yuan – will fulfil a four-year-delayed promise. Originally scheduled for 2022, this programme will finally be presented this year, embodying Brahms's own philosophy that ‘a good work fears no delay’.
Throughout his life, Brahms embodied the artistic ideal of ‘solitude and freedom.’ As early as 1853, at the tender age of 20, he was commissioned by Schumann to compose the Scherzo movement for the F.A.E. Sonata, written for his friend Joachim. The technical refinement already displayed the hallmarks of a master. Yet, in his relentless pursuit of artistic perfection, he refined his compositions through endless internal deliberation, finally releasing his first violin sonata at the age of forty. This deliberate restraint—refusing to rush into proving himself, determined to leave only the most exquisite works—ensured that every composition he produced reached the pinnacle of achievement upon its debut. His sonatas are universally recognised as the definitive standard in the genre since Beethoven.
HUANG Bin and SHENG Yuan are longstanding friends of the Mountain View Theater and are widely regarded as China's premier chamber music duo. They have previously performed Beethoven's complete ten violin sonatas and Bach's complete unaccompanied works here, both becoming legendary concerts fondly remembered by Shenzhen's music enthusiasts. Returning to the stage with such acclaim, they will now fulfil a long-awaited wish for audiences, jointly witnessing this long-awaited, glorious moment.
